Green Calculator

One thing that content management is uniquely positioned to talk about is the green ramifications at an organization. Companies who move their information online cut their paper costs, their shipping costs, and storage costs. In some cases, because the information is available electronically, employees can work from home, which can save a tremendous amount of gas and pollution.

We’re launching a web page dedicated to the role of content management in green efforts. This page comes with the Oracle Content Management Green Calculator. The calculator enables organizations to see how many trees, barrels of oil, and pounds of carbon they can save by going electronic with their paper documentation processes. It’s not exhaustive, but it’s fun and it is based on reasonable figures from quoted sources.

There’s also a white paper that explains the methodology of the spreadsheet, as well as a podcast talking about these issues. There will also be a web panel with each of the customers in the paper represented, on February 24th. You can go here for more information.

I just checked out your website and green calculator. It makes a lot of sense, especially the initiatives mandated by the governments in Europe. Given the change in guard here in the US I think it's only a matter of time untill we see more initiatives and incentives for businesses to "go green" here.
